Centenary Year of Indian Science Congress 2012-13".

Theme: Science for shaping the future of India

The 100th session of "INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS " concluded on January 7, 2013 with a call to bring forward the youth to work for the promotion of science as the youth leadership is the key to the objective of shaping the future of India. In addition to the regular lectures and scientific discussions, the Congress had special sessions for women and children. Also, an excellent exhibition of the scientific work in progress was captured in the Pride of India exposition. Apart from us (CSIR), India's other leading research organizations like DST, DRDO, ICMR were some of the major exhibitors at the Pride of India Expo 2013. On this occasion 15 ISCA Young Scientist Awards, 28 ISCA Best Poster Awards and 15 ISC-POI Expo Awards were also presented.

"From Small Beginnings Come Great Things".
ISCA was conceived with an objective of advancing, promoting and furthering the cause of science in India, thus stimulating scientific research in the country. From its modest beginning in 1914, in Kolkata, with hundred and five members, Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) has grown into a strong fraternity with more than ten thousand members. Over the years it has been hosted in Bangalore for 8 times (1917,1924,1932,1946,1951,1971,1987,2003).

The December issue of 'Current Science' editorial by Prof P.Balaram on this issue takes us to the early stages to the present scenario of ISC.
